Miller-Fisher syndrome with cognitive impairment: A case report
نویسندگان
چکیده
Miller-Fisher Syndrome (MFS) is considered to be a variant of Guillain-Barree Syndrome (GBS). The typical clinical features of MFS include external ophthalmoplegia, ataxia and areflexia. Anti-GQ1b antibody is an important biomarker for the diagnosis of MFS, not just for typical MFS but also for ‘lessextensive forms’ and ‘massive-extensive forms’ of MFS. ‘Anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome’ was used to describe continuous spectrum with positive anti-GQ1b antibody. Here we report a rare case of antiGQ1b antibody positive MFS associated with cognitive impairment. Our case suggests that cognitive impairment is one of the clinical symptoms of anti-GQ1b antibody syndrome which may be overlooked in clinical practice.

A Case of Miller Fisher Syndrome, Thromboembolic Disease, and Angioedema: Association or Coincidence?
BACKGROUND Miller Fisher Syndrome is characterized by the clinical triad of ophthalmoplegia, ataxia, and areflexia, and is considered to be a variant of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Miller Fisher Syndrome is observed in approximately 1-5% of all Guillain-Barre cases in Western countries. Patients with Miller Fisher Syndrome usually have good recovery without residual deficits. Venous thromboembolis...

Trisomy 9 is a rare chromosome disorder with high neonatal mortality. It is often seen in mosaic form. Most patients who survive are severely mentally retarded. The main features of this syndrome are "bulbous" nose, microphthalmia, dislocated limbs, and other anomalies of skeletal, cardiac, genitourinary, and central nervous system. Most patients have developmental and cognitive impairment. Pat...

BACKGROUND Miller Fisher syndrome is a regional variant of Guillain-Barre syndrome with a characteristic clinical triad of ophthalmoplegia, areflexia and ataxia and occasionally distal limb sensory loss. 90% of patients have associated antibodies to the GQ1b ganglioside. The pathophysiology of antibody-mediated peripheral nerve impairment remains uncertain. This report includes the first descri...

متن کاملA Case of Miller Fisher Syndrome with Unusual Features: Brisk Muscle Stretch Reflexes and Facial Palsy
Miller-Fisher syndrome (MFS), a variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), first described by Dr. Miller Fisher consists of the triad of ophthalmoplegia, ataxia, and areflexia [1]. In its classical form, the condition is easily diagnosed. Here we report a case of MFS which showed in addition to classical features association of facial palsy and exaggerated reflexes, both of which are very rare i...
